Our area offers ample scope for scenic walks with an abundance of wildlife to be found. The island is a haven for birdwatching and you will find several species of seabird including Fulmar Petrel, Kittiwake, Shag and Black Guillemot.

And if you're lucky you may even spot a Golden Eagle, which can often be seen flying around the Uig region of the island.

Many visitors to the Isle of Lewis like to take advantage of the excellent local fishing. Trout fishing is available less than five minutes walk from the house, or if you prefer, you can purchase a permit for several of the local rivers and fish for Salmon.

Balallan is also within driving distance of several beautiful beaches both in Lewis and Harris, where you can really get away from it all for a bracing walk in total solitude. For the more active amongst you, the beaches in Lewis and Harris are becoming increasingly popular with surfers.

Lewis is steeped in history and home to the second most important stone circle in Britain - the famous Callanish Stones on the west coast of the island. The Carloway Broch is nearby, and in our own village we have a cairn to commemorate the Pairc Deer Raiders of 1887, the story of which is available in our house.

During the summer there are regular traditional ceilidhs held in the village, where you can try your hand at many traditional Scottish dances.

Our local Agricultural Show is held at the end of July every year, and the now famous Celtic Festival is held in July every year in nearby Stornoway.

There is something for everyone to enjoy in our area at all times.
